Finally, but that’s enough |
In the last newsletter we were praying for rain – two weeks ago I was praying for it to stop. Although the grass is loving it, too much too quickly causes damage and it unfortunately did. Month upon month of recycled water takes its toll on the grass. Being an obligatory substitute, it is better than no water at all, but the salt content is extremely high and harmful to any plant life. We have mainly paspalum surfaces which is the most salt tolerant of all grass but even that was struggling. The recent downpours are great for diluting and washing away the built up salt in the soil. The problem is it also washes away bunkers and land, as well as flooding the clubhouse basement. |

The first weekend of rain was the worst, causing landslides, displacing sand and flooding the basement. Unfortunately the water level reached high enough to damage the buggies which have been taken away for repairs. There is no timeline at the moment for their return, all we can do is apologize to those who need one and keep our fingers crossed that it won’t be too long.
New Scorecard

You can now record all your birdies on the new La Resina scorecard. This goes hand in hand with the new handicap slope rating which should arrive any day now. The result, apart from a great professional looking card, is we can run handicap competitions officially, something that is being arranged and you’ll be informed shortly.
There are two thank you’s we must make. The first is to Daniel Pantiga of Pantiga Insurance for sponsoring the scorecard. You will see his advert on the back and also on our website. Their local office is in Marbella and takes care of finding the best deals, processing and administrating all of your insurance needs here in Spain. It saves you money and time from day one.
Secondly, thank you to Gutta Johansson for the beautiful design, his talents are not restricted only to the high seas. Gutta took the time this summer to design and print the first batch which has all the official hole distances confirmed by the RFEG.
New Toys

A game changer for the golf course maintenance. It’s hard to believe and just as hard to understand how any golf course can exist without a rough mower, but that was the case at La Resina. The point was brought up when we started in 2022 but ignored by the owners. Fortunately the greenkeepers here during the renovation had access to one which helped us initially clear much of the brush left behind.
Since then it has been difficult maintaining the rough areas but that has now changed. Our mechanic was working on plan during the summer to restore one working machine from two old broken ones which we bought from other clubs. His plan succeeded and we can now keep that nasty stuff under control – just in case you do venture off the fairway.
