Rome wasn’t built in a day |
However, what they did build stood for millennia. I’d like to think what we are doing here resembles that in a small way. The last few months of low season has given us the chance to take our focus off cutting grass and make some structural improvements which, to be honest, have been planned for a long time but remained stuck on the ‘to do list’ until now. |

New front terrace open
One of those jobs was to finish the front terrace, a job that was postponed during the summer because of the heat. However, the front side of the clubhouse is a popular area during spring because it gets plenty of sun. With the kind help of members Ken & Jo, Peter and Per Olav, the wall protecting the area from the road was finished and we installed an artificial grass floor. It has given the front of the clubhouse a nice vibrant look and has already proved to be a popular meeting area.

Safety barrier on hole #8
We have been reluctant to open the buggy path to the top tee on number 8 because of safety concerns. It was noted at the beginning of the renovations that there was a severe risk to injury in this area because of the steep drop to the left side of the path with no protection at all.
This would never pass a health and safety analysis nowadays, however, 20 years ago legislation was a little more relaxed. To coincide with the opening of that teeing ground we have now installed a barrier with leftover bricks from the front terrace and recycling the wooden beams which used to be steps to the old first tee.

Front gate construction
Work on the entrance to the golf course started as well. There is a lot planned for this area including a practice nets area to warm up before you play.
Above is Sebastian and Ken building the new front gate and doing a general clean up of the area. The metal gate will hopefully act as a deterrent to not only wild boar, but also the walkers/joggers/cyclists who don’t seem to realize they are entering a golf course.
